One Year of Offroad Expedition – Building More Than Just 4WDs
Share
Twelve months ago, Offroad Expedition opened its workshop in North Lakes with a simple goal: to create a place where four-wheel-drive owners could get quality workmanship, honest advice, and a team that genuinely loves the off-road lifestyle.
Looking back at our first year, it's incredible to see the variety of vehicles, projects, and people that have come through our workshop.
Every Vehicle Has a Story
No two jobs have been the same.
We've worked on everything from daily-driven dual cabs and weekend touring rigs through to heavily modified LandCruisers, patrols and classic four-wheel drives that have become lifelong passion projects.
Over the past 12 months we've completed:
- Suspension upgrades
- Bull bar, winch and recovery equipment installations
- UHF radios and electrical accessories
- Lighting upgrades including driving lights and light bars
- Long-range touring setups
- General servicing and preventative maintenance
- Pre-trip inspections for Cape York and outback adventures
- Custom accessory installations
- Troubleshooting and repair work
- Assisted DIY workshop sessions for customers wanting to learn
One thing we've learnt is that every customer uses their vehicle differently. Some spend every weekend on the tracks, while others are building the ultimate touring vehicle for that once-in-a-lifetime lap around Australia. Our job is making sure each vehicle is built to suit its owner's needs—not just fitted with parts for the sake of it.
More Than a Workshop
One of the biggest highlights of our first year has been meeting an amazing community of four-wheel-drive enthusiasts.
We've had first-time 4WD owners wanting to learn basic maintenance, experienced tourers preparing for remote trips, and customers restoring vehicles they've owned for decades.
Education has become just as important as the work we perform. Whether it's showing someone how to recover their vehicle safely, explaining why a particular suspension setup suits their driving style, or helping someone understand how their vehicle works, we believe informed owners make better adventurers.
Project Highlight – Superior Engineering Coil Conversion
One project that really stands out from our first year was completing a full Superior Engineering coil conversion.
Converting a leaf-sprung vehicle to coils is far more than simply changing the suspension. It completely transforms the way the vehicle rides, handles and performs both on and off the road.
The build involved careful planning, precision fabrication, suspension geometry setup, and attention to every detail to ensure the finished product performed exactly as intended.
Watching the vehicle go from a traditional leaf-sprung setup to a modern coil suspension system was one of the most rewarding projects we've completed. The improvement in ride quality, articulation and overall capability was immediately noticeable.
Projects like this showcase what Offroad Expedition is all about—taking on challenging builds and delivering high-quality workmanship that owners can rely on.
Looking Ahead
The first year has exceeded every expectation.
We've built some incredible vehicles, partnered with great suppliers, welcomed new brands into the workshop, and continued investing in the equipment and training needed to deliver the highest standard of work.
As we head into our second year, we're excited to expand our range of services, continue offering professional installations, and help even more people build reliable, capable four-wheel drives.
To everyone who has trusted us with their vehicle, shared our work, recommended us to friends, or simply stopped by for a chat—thank you.
We're only just getting started.
If you're planning your next modification, preparing for an outback adventure, or simply want honest advice about your 4WD, we'd love to help.
Here's to another year of building, exploring and creating vehicles that are ready for wherever the tracks lead.
